The Good Dinosaur is in theaters now, and you should go see it. You probably already planned to check it out if you’re a Disney•Pixar fan, anyway. And if you were on the fence, let me push you into the yes category. It’s an amazing film. The animation is insanely good. There are scenes of landscapes where you’ll be hard pressed to remember you’re watching animation. The story is great. Basically, it’s what you’d expect from Pixar. So now let me answer your likely questions:

Is it good for children?

Yes. It’s a family-friendly film. There are a few scenses with animals acting like animals. (Chasing and eating other animals.) There are some scenes of intense weather which might be difficult for some children. There are multiple tear-jerker scenes, but based on the audience at my screening, the sad moments had a greater impact on the adults than the children.

Should you spring for 3D?

I’d say give the 3D a pass for this one. I saw it in 3D at my screening, and although I thought the 3D was extremely well done, I wouldn’t consider it worth the extra cost this time. Of course that that with a grain of salt, knowing a tend to prefer non-3D movies.

Is there an animated short before the movie?

Of course there’s an animated short! Check out the very cute Sanjay’s Super Team before The Good Dinosaur.

Anything else you need to know?

There’s a whole bunch of ridiculously cute merchandise that ties into the film. Expect your children to want one of everything for Christmas.  I kind of want a plush Spot for myself…

The Good Dinosaur” asks the question: What if the asteroid that forever changed life on Earth missed the planet completely and giant dinosaurs never became extinct? Pixar Animation Studios takes you on an epic journey into the world of dinosaurs where an Apatosaurus named Arlo (voice of Raymond Ochoa) makes an unlikely human friend. While traveling through a harsh and mysterious landscape, Arlo learns the power of confronting his fears and discovers what he is truly capable of. Directed by Peter Sohn and produced by Denise Ream (“Cars 2”), Disney•Pixar’s “The Good Dinosaur” opens in theaters on Nov. 25, 2015.
