2016: A Year In Hops

2016There’s a sort of ego in assuming you guys actually want a recap of what happened to me in 2016. So let me put it  out there now: this is more about me than you. I want to remember what happened over the last 365 days. And there are probably a couple of you who do care, so if you’re one of them…or my mom…welcome.

January is an interesting month for me. And by interesting I mean it’s totally boring. December is always madness. Then January rolls around with very little to recommend it other than working on taxes and wondering why you thought self-employment was a good thing. American Girl hosted my niece’s birthday lunch, though. That was pretty cool.

In February I launched my new logo, designed by my beautiful and talented cousin-in-law Tiffany. I also received my Trademark for As The Bunny Hops. Accept no imitations! And…that was about it.

March

In March I found out I’d be heading to LA the following month to attend the premiere of The Jungle Book. My first red carpet event. Yep. That was pretty much the most exciting thing that happened in March.

April

April was a crazy month. And by crazy I mean I was never home and I made no money. I started the month in LA, walking the red carpet at The Jungle Book premiere. Then I flew to Salt Lake City to attend Snap! Conference. I ended the month in Laguna Nigel at Mom 2.0, with a quick side-trip to Disneyland. Fun fact: I got crazy sick at Disneyland and still had the time of my life. It’s magic!

May

In May I had the chance to recuperate from the madness that was April.  Of course staying home for more than two days without knowing when I’ll be leaving again is not for me. Luckily I was able to line up some travel for June.

June was just a disgustingly good month. I started off by heading to Portland for the first time to visit Laika Studios for The Mommyhood Chronicles. I’m such a stop-motion nerd, and getting a behind the scenes look at the making of Kubo and the Two Strings was seriously amazing. And Portland is ridiculously cool. I ended the month by heading back to LA to walk the red carpet at The BFG premiere. Oh, and I met Steven Spielberg. That happened.

Kubo Press Conference

July

Did I say June was amazing? Well June, meet July. I was invited back to LA to screen Kubo and the Two Strings and attend the press day. Then I was invited to a special screening of Bad Moms with a pop up Flo Rida concert and their press day. Oh, and did I mention they treated us all to the spa? Hanging out with a bunch of rowdy bloggers in the spa lounge of a Beverly Hills hotel will forever be one of my favorite memories.

August

I settled into a month of doing nothing but turning another year older in August when my friend from A Mom’s Impression asked if I wanted to attend the Storks press junket for her. I got to spend my birthday in a five star hotel in Beverly Hills and I got to ask Andy Samberg a question about The Lonely Island. Best birthday ever! (And a special shout-out to my friends who had a special birthday dinner and cupcakes with me that night!)

September

Another last minute surprise landed on my doorstep in September when my friend from All Mommy Wants asked if I wanted to visit the set of Spider-Man: Homecoming for her. Umm…yes? I know the entire plot and all sorts of secrets now and it’s been burning a hole in my brain for months. I can’t wait to spill a little more. So far the only thing I’m able to say is I was there!

sofabu-otrOctober

October brought me back to LA. This time it was to speak at a conference. I have years and years of public speaking and trainings under my belt, but this was my first time speaking on the topic of blogging. I think it went well. The audience laughed several times. I even think they were laughing with me and not at me at least 75% of those time. I attended Type A Conference at Walt Disney World and stayed in two of my Disney bucket-list  hotels. We attended Food & Wine at Epcot and I think we had a good time. It’s a bit of a blur….

Blue Carpet

November

November was pretty badass because I got to walk my third red carpet when I went back to LA for Moana. (And to be precise, the carpet was actually blue.) I was able to ask questions to Dwayne Johnson and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Oh, and Lin made me Twitter famous.

December

December is normally my favorite month, but I didn’t visit the west coast for anything and I saw absolutely no celebrities. So screw you, December. (I kid. Mostly.) Christmas and family are pretty awesome, but would it have killed the universe to throw another sexiest man alive interview into the mix this month?

My favorite post in December: Even More Disney Princess-Inspired Christmas Ornaments (Because I managed to figure out a way to make a Moana ornament, which was a personal victory.)

2017

I’ve been asked a lot about 2017. When is my next trip? What do I have planned? And honestly, I don’t know. But 2016, at least professionally, was a pretty kick ass year. 2017? You have a lot to live up to.
