Over 20 Of The Best 2019 Little Women Quotes

Enjoy more than 20 of the best Little Women quotes from Greta Gerwig's 2019 film.

Greta Gerwig’s Little Women might be the best movie I’ve seen in 2019. It also had some of the best quotes. The movie takes some lines directly from the book, some lines are slightly altered, and some are completely new.

The movie starts with a quote directly from the author Louisa May Alcott herself.

People want to be amused, not preached at, you know. -Louisa May Alcott

We also meet Jo’s publisher, Mr. Dashwood, who sets the initial tone with his opinion on female literature.

If the main character is a girl, make sure she’s married by the end. Or dead. Either way.-Mr. Dashwood

Saoirse Ronan in Greta Gerwig’s LITTLE WOMEN.

The Best March Sister Quotes in Little Women

Perhaps my favorite part of the 2019 Little Women film was the character depth finally given to Amy, as evident in these quotes from the movie.

I have lovely small feet. The best in the family. -Amy

Talent isn’t genius. -Amy

The Best March Family Quotes in Little Women

Aunt March, of course, delivered some of the best laughs in the film.

These French women couldn’t lift a hairbrush. -Aunt March

No one makes their own way. Least of all a woman. -Aunt March

It is possible to be right and foolish. -Aunt March

I’m not patient by nature, but with 40 years of experience, I’m learning not to let it get the better of me. -Marmee

About Little Women

Writer-director Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) has crafted a Little Women that draws on both the classic novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott, and unfolds as the author’s alter ego, Jo March, reflects back and forth on her fictional life. In Gerwig’s take, the beloved story of the March sisters – four young women each determined to live life on her own terms — is both timeless and timely. Portraying Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth March, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, with Timothée Chalamet as their neighbor Laurie, Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.
