A Look At 2016 From Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures

2016 Disney Slate

So many amazing things are on the way from Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures in 2016!

TheFinestHours

First up on January 29th is The Finest Hours. I may spring for IMAX just for Chris Pine-viewing purposes.

Zootopia

Next up we have BUNNIES! I mean…we have Zootopia. It hops into theaters on March 4th. I’m a tiny bit excited for this one. And by tiny bit I mean so freaking excited!

Jungle Book

Then on April 15th, The Jungle Book arrives in theaters. My friend Summer talks about to me about this movie almost every day. The original animated The Jungle Book is her favorite film ever. Random trivia: it’s also Jeremy Renner’s favorite Disney film. Civil War

May 6th brings us Captain America: Civil War. That means it’s also gonna bring us a lot more Bucky. Once I was in a screening for a different Marvel movie and it’s possible I screamed, “Bucky!” when he showed up in the credits. It’s also possible I received a dirty look or two. Press can be so serious sometimes…

AliceThroughTheLookingGlass

Later in the month (May 27th to be exact) we finally get to see Alice Through The Looking Glass! This is one of the films I’m really excited about. Partially because I have a life-long obsession with Johnny Depp. Partially because Helena Bonham Carter is one of my spirit animals. Partially because I love nearly everything Tim Burton touches and he’s one of the producers. Mostly, though, it fulfills my need for more bunnies in film with the March Hare and White Rabbit. (I’m only partially joking about that last part.)

Finding Dory

Remember how I said my friend Summer couldn’t stop talking about The Jungle Book? Well my friend Melissa can’t stop talking about Finding Dory.  About once I week she asks me to remind her when it’s coming out. Apparently I remember all of the release dates after D23 EXPO. Oh, and it comes out on June 17th.

The BFG

On July 1st, the Roald Dahl classic, The BFG, will come to life on the big screen. I’m a huge Dahl fan. It’s been a while since I’ve read him, but I just received a copy of The BFG and I can’t wait to re-read it!

Image converted using ifftoanyOn August 12th, a whole new generation will be introduced to Pete’s Dragon. You should not wait, though, to see Pete’s Dragon. You should totally watch the original version. And now I am having elementary school chorus flashbacks from when we sang “Candle On The Water”.Queen of KatweLupita Nyong’o stars in Queen of Katwe this fall. Set in rural Uganda, Queen of Katwe is based on the true story of a girl who dreams of becoming a champion chess player.

DoctorStrangeOn November 4th we’ll finally enter Doctor Strange’s Sanctum Sanctorum when Doctor Strange hits theaters. It’s Marvel and weird, two things I love. But honestly, I’d see it just for Benedict Cumberbatch.

"Moana" introduces a spirited teenager who sails out on a daring mission to fulfill her ancestors? unfinished quest. She meets the once-mighty demi-god Maui (voice of Dwayne Johnson), and together, they traverse the open ocean on an action-packed voyage. Directed by the renowned filmmaking team of Ron Clements and John Musker (?The Little Mermaid,? ?Aladdin,? ?The Princess & the Frog?), ?Moana? sails into U.S. theaters on Nov. 23, 2016.I’ve been excited about Moana from the very first mention. Everything mentioned at the EXPO last August just got me even more excited. I’m dying for an official trailer. Moana hits theaters on November 23, 2016.

Star Wars: Rogue One..?Lucasfilm 2016December 16th brings us the first stand-alone Star Wars feature when Rouge One hits theaters. There was a movie late last year called The Force Awakens. Maybe you’ve heard of it? Apparently it was pretty good, so I have high hopes for Rouge One.Michael Fassbender stars as Tom Sherbourne and Alicia Vikander as his wife Isabel in DreamWorks Pictures' poignant drama THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS, written and directed by Derek Cianfrance based on the acclaimed novel by M.L. Stedman. At a yet to be determined date, we’ll get to see The Light Between Oceans, based on the novel of the same name. All you really need to know is Michael Fassbender is in it. I’ve been told the book it was based on was amazing. But…Michael Fassbender… that alone is good enough to make you buy a ticket, right?

And that’s just 2016. We already know some cool things are coming our way in 2017…like Toy Story 4, Dead Men Tell No Tales and the one I’m most excited for: the live-action Beauty and the Beast!
