Thank you to American Girl for providing the doll featured in this post.
I love making simple hair bows, so American Girl’s Girl of the Year served as the perfect inspiration to try a set of Doll and Me Hair Bows.
Specifically, I was inspired by the adorable honey bee printed dress that Girl of the Year Blaire is wearing. (It comes in children’s sizes, and I’m actually super jealous there isn’t an adult version!)
Honey Bee Hair Bows
To make your own doll and me bows, you’ll need:
- Yellow Ribbon (Multiple Sizes)
- Black Ribbon (Multiple Sizes)
- Glue Dot Runner
- Hot Glue
- Regular and Small Hair Clips
- Twist Ties
- Scissors
To make your honey bee stripes, first find black and yellow ribbons in sizes that will work well together. Run your glue dot runner down the back of the black ribbon, then position it in the middle of the yellow ribbon.
Use your hot glue gun to create ribbon loops that are slightly wider than you want your bow to be. Add a loop of ribbon around the hair clips with more hot glue. This gives you a place to attach your bow.
Use twist ties to create the initial bow shape. You can cover the larger bow’s center with a piece of the smaller bow’s ribbon and hot glue. Fold the smaller bow’s ribbon in half to cover the center of the doll’s bow.
Use more hot glue to attach the bows to the hair clips. Your doll and me honey bee hair bows are ready to wear!
