I loved going back to school shopping as a child. I still have fond memories of picking out just the right Trapper Keeper for the coming school year with my mother. Perhaps that’s why I’ve always kept up the habit, even when there’s no one going back to school!
My sister is an elementary school teacher and I try to buy school supplies each year for her students. This year it was even more important to help out as several of the children at her school lost their homes during the tornadoes that hit North Carolina in April.
I called my sister before I went to Walmart to get some ideas about what I should buy. She was really excited about the donations, but perhaps a little upset that she was being forced to think about school with just three short weeks left before her summer vacation ended!
Glue sticks were at the top of her list. She said every classroom would have Elmer’s Glue Sticks on their requested supply list. At only $.40 for two I picked up several packs. (We needed glue sticks, too!) I just love that these sticks go on purple and dry clear. It makes them so easy to use.
Glitter was the second item she mentioned. I found Elmer’s 3D Washable Glitter Glue Paint Pens and picked up those as well. I love glitter that is pre-mixed with glue. It’s so much easier to use and it doesn’t make a mess.
I found these binder pouches by the glitter. They were so cute I just had to pick up a couple. I loved my little pencil pouches when I was young. And of course you always need classic Elmer’s School Glue. I added that to the cart as well.
When I got to the register to check out I was surprised by how little I had spent! I definitely need to go back and pick up more supplies to donate. I know that every little bit will help the families who are rebuilding after they lost their homes.
To help make a difference in your community consider participating in the Bag It Forward program. Simply buy schools supplies and donate them to the school or charity of your choice. It couldn’t be easier. You can even upload a photo of your donation on the Bag It Forward webpage.
Another easy way to help is by visiting Elmer’s Facebook page. For every like on their page they will donate an Elmer’s product to a student in need. They will make an additional donation for every view this video receives:
Please share the video with your friends and families to help Elmer’s donate up to 200,000 products to the Kids In Need Foundation.
