I know, a Baymax pumpkin has totally been done. But I have a new spin on it that I think you’ll find very satisfying.
A Baymax pumpkin is a snap to make, but did you know that you have to say you’re satisfied with your scare before he can shut down? It’s true. To make your Baymax inspired Halloween wall art you’ll need:
- A white half pumpkin
- Blank balsa wood sign
- White paint
- Black paint
- Brush
- Black and white vinyl, contact paper or duct tape
Start by giving your pumpkin a few coats of white paint. Even though the craft pumpkin I purchased was called white, it was really more of a beige. I found half pumpkins at my craft store ready to hang, but if you can’t find them, a regular craft pumpkin can be cut in half for this.
You’ll also want to paint your balsa wood sign black. You should be able to find multiple sizes and shapes of balsa wood in the wood crafting section of your craft store. Pick the style you like in the size that works best with your pumpkin.
You can skip painting the sign if you’re using my decoupage option. Stay tuned…
To turn your white pumpkin into Baymax, all you need are the eyes. If you want to use your Silhouette, just grab the cut pattern here. If you’re cutting by hand, right click on the picture above to print it out and use it as your pattern. Black craft vinyl, contact paper or duct tape will all work. If you want to use duct tape, just apply the tape to a piece of parchment paper before you cut. That allows you to handle it almost like a sticker. Another alternative is to use a duct tape sheet. Don’t forget to clean off your stickers after cutting tape. I like to use tea tree oil to remove the sticky residue.
To make your “I am satisfied with my scare” sign, you have a few options. You can paint your sign black and use a white paint pen to hand letter. Don’t let hand lettering scare you. Your goal is to look drippy, so an unsteady hand works in your favor. You can use your Silhouette and cut vinyl using this cut file. Or you can just save and print out the image above and decoupage it directly onto your sign wood.
Cute and simple, right? It’s also easy to hang.
The half pumpkins come with a nail hole, but it’s so light weight that I used poster putty to hang up both the pumpkin and the sign. That will make them easy to remove once Halloween is over.
I hope you’re satisfied with your Halloween!
