After I published my snow globe, I said that was my last Beauty and the Beast-themed project. Other movies are coming out that need my attention. More holidays are around the corner. I have things I should be doing. But here we are, with a post on making your own Beauty and the Beast-themed Magic Mirror.
It all started with a trip to the dollar store. I will go there from time to time and wander the aisles waiting for inspiration to strike. I had almost given up on this trip when the silver hand mirrors in the beauty aisle called out to me. They’re cheap and plastic, but also totally fancy and dress-up play prop-worthy. A dollar a piece? A total steal. The only other supplies you’ll need are some pictures, some decoupage medium, scissors, spray sealer and a brush.
Give your printouts a generous coating of spray sealer and allow it to dry before you do anything else. This will help lock in the color of your printouts if they’re from an ink jet printer. Otherwise they’re likely to smear when you add your decoupage medium. If you used a laser jet printer you can skip this step.
Trace out the shape of the mirror on a piece of scrap paper to create a template. Cut out your printouts of Belle and The Beast. I used their animated versions, but you can totally grab the live-action versions if you prefer!
Cover the mirror and the back of your pictures with decoupage medium.
Carefully smooth them into place, working out any bubbles before you give the tops of your images a coat or two of decoupage medium.
When they’re dry, your favorite Beast and Belle will be ready to play with their new Magic Mirror!
