Thank you to Disney•Pixar for hosting me during the #Incredibles2Event, which included a screening of Big City Greens and a Q&A with creators Chris and Shane Houghton.
What do you get when two brothers create an animated comedy-adventure loosely based on their life growing up on a farm in a small town in Michigan? You get Disney Channel’s Big City Greens!
Chris and Shane Houghton have worked together professionally for over ten years. Creating Big City Greens has been their biggest project so far. It took over two years to bring the show to the small screen.
The character of Cricket Green is based on and voiced by co-creator Chris Houghton. Cricket’s haircut is even based on an old childhood photo of Chris.
Shane and Chris not only created the show, they wrote the theme song you can hear at the end of each episode. Chris is also the song’s singer.
Chris and Shane had a totally different direction in mind for the character of Tilly Green, but they laughed so hard during Marieve Herington audition they decided to change directions.
Jon Hamm, Raven-Symoné, Busta Rhymes, Danny Trejo, Lorraine Toussaint, Jim Rash, Paul F. Tompkins, Lauren Lapkus and more have guest starring voice roles on the show. Despite the star power, none of the roles were created specifically for their famous voices.
Ready to check out Big City Greens for yourself?
Big City Greens debuts on Disney Channel on June 18, 2018 at 9:30am ET.
