There’s nothing I love more than a DIY project, so doing a DIY installation of the Samsung – SmartThings ADT Home Security Starter Kit was right up my alley! The kit comes with a motion sensor and two door or window sensors. You can also purchase additional sensors to fully monitor your home. The hub can be mounted on your wall or placed on a table using the included desk mount. Although I’ll eventually install the hub on the wall, I started using it at first with the mount to speed along the setup process.Start by connecting the hub to a power outlet. You’ll then want to download the SmartThings app, which is available for Android and iOS devices. Set up your account using the app, then enter the code that is displayed on your security hub.
To set up your sensors, select “My Home”/”Things”/”Add a Thing” and scan the QR code on the back of your sensor. This will start the pairing process. Pull the tab out of the sensor to enable pairing. The trickiest part of the whole process for me was figuring out the proper location on my doors and windows for mounting my sensors. (I have trim work that I had to work around.)
After you’ve installed your sensors and tested everything out, your system is ready to arm. You can even opt for professional monitoring services from ADT without a contract. You can sign up or cancel at any time through the SmartThings mobile app.
In addition to the Home Security Starter Kit, you can also purchase the Expansion Kit. It includes an ADT Smoke Alarm, an ADT Carbon Monoxide Alarm, and an ADT Water Leak Detector. You can find everything online or at your local Best Buy. Right now you can save $50 with the purchase of the ADT Security Starter Pack plus get free Geek Squad set up!
