Earlier in the week I had the chance to preview the new live action Cinderella. The movie has all of the magic you would expect from Disney. The costumes may be my favorite part of the film-there are so many beautiful gowns from beginning to end. If pressed, I’d have a hard time deciding which was my favorite, but the top two were definitely Cinderella’s wedding gown and ball gown.
I decided to make a new set of 80s style ribbon barrettes inspired by Cinderella’s wedding gown. (And my own Frozen Barrettes from last year!) All you need are split barrettes, 1/8″ ivory ribbon and floral bling on a roll.
If you saw my Frozen barrette post, you probably noticed I said that the key was using two colors. What I really meant by that was that trying to do three or four colors was going to be unnecessarily hard. I’m just using ivory ribbon today, but I am still using two pieces of ribbon to give it the desired thickness.
Always start at the open end of the barrette. Wind the ribbon back and forth from the top, smoothing out the ribbon as you go. You can slide the ribbon up and down as you work to get full coverage. Once you’re done just tie the ribbon in a knot at the back of the barrette. Trim the floral bling on a roll and attach it to the top of each barrette. Lightly burn the edges of each ribbon to keep it from fraying. That’s all there is to it-just a few minutes and your Cinderella wedding dress inspired ribbon barrettes are ready to wear!
