Duct Tape Chewbacca Bandolier

If you need a little something to carry around your extra bowcaster ammo this Halloween, I have just the thing.

Duct Tape Chewbacca BandolierPlus you’ll have an extra bag to stash your Halloween candy in while trick-or-treating. Win-win!

DIY Chewbacca Bandolier

To make your Chewbacca Bandolier you’ll need:

  • Brown Duct Tape
  • Silver Duct Tape
  • Foam Board or Cardboard
  • Lanyard Hooks
  • Poster Board
  • Hole Punch
  • Scissors
  • Craft Knife
  • Cutting Mat

Ripped Duct TapeStart by placing down overlapping strips of brown duct tape on your cutting mat. You want to create a rectangle that’s three times longer than you want your bag at the end of the bandolier to be. You can waste less duct tape by cutting it, or you can go the lazy and wasteful route like me by ripping it. Back of Duct TapeOnce your rectangle of duct tape is large enough, peel it off of the cutting mat and flip it over. Cover back of Duct TapeCover the back of the duct tape with even more duct tape. Trip RectangleTrim the edges to create a rectangle that’s completely covered front and back with duct tape. It’s helpful to keep a bottle of tea tree oil handy when cutting duct tape. It easily removes the sticky residue on your scissors.

Corners of BagFold the rectangle of duct tape into thirds to create the basic bag shape. You can then use scissors to round the corners of the bag.

Seal EdgesSeal the flap of the bag and the edges with more duct tape.

Notch CornersNotch the duct tape to work it around the rounded corners.

The final dimensions of my bag were 7.5″ x 6″.  You can size up or down as needed to fit the person who will be carrying the bag. For more details in creating a duct tape bag, check out my Oogie Boogie bag tutorial.

Poster BoardTo make the bandolier itself, place two pieces of duct tape on an old piece of poster board. Or a new piece of poster board. Whatever you have on hand. Wrap Strap

Trim the excess poster board from around each piece of duct tape, then wrap the back of the poster board with two more pieces of duct tape so that no poster board is exposed. Measure the length you want the bandelier to be on the person who will be wearing it, then trim the two pieces of duct tape covered poster board to size and tape together.

Lanyard Hooks

Use a hole punch and lanyard hooks to attach your bandolier strap to your bag. You can add extra duct tape where you cut the edges for extra security. Lanyard hooks are usually found with the jewelry supplies at your craft store. BagNow we just need ammo…Foam BoardThe ammo boxes on Chewbacca’s bandolier are two different, alternating sizes. Cut foam board or cardboard with a craft knife to create the boxes. Size appropriately for the bandolier you’re making, but these were cut to 1″ x 2″ and 1.25″ x 2″.

Ammo Duct TapeCover the foam board or cardboard with silver duct tape. Use a craft knife to cut out the corners as pictured before folding over the edges. Trim Duct TapeCreate smaller strips of brown duct tape to attach your ammo boxes to the bandolier. Attach Ammo

Alternate sizes of the boxes as you attach them. Chewbacca BagNow your Chewbacca bandolier is ready to wear. Duct Tape Chewbacca BandolierAnd don’t forget to practice up on your best Chewbacca impression. You know you’ll get asked for it.
