Fresh watermelon is a summertime staple! It’s the perfect poolside snack and it can be easily dressed up for a party. It also pairs well with summer classics like Minute Maid® Lemonade and FUZE® Tea. Another thing I love about Watermelon? It gives me a chance to pretend like it’s Halloween right in the middle of summer! Why should pumpkins have all of the carving fun? I’m making a fun emoji watermelon that will be a hit at your next pool party!
I picked up my Minute Maid® Lemonade, FUZE® Tea, and Watermelon at my local Food Lion store. Food Lion is a great place to stock up on your summer refreshment needs. When carving a watermelon you’ll want to start by determining which side will be your “presentation side”. Once you’ve picked out that, give a small slice with a sharp kitchen knife to the bottom of your watermelon so that it will sit level on your countertop.
You can treat your watermelon somewhat like you do a pumpkin you’re carving, minus those stringy pumpkin guts. Carefully slice an opening at the top that will allow you to remove the watermelon flesh. Once you create that opening, head in with a melon baller.
After you’ve made as many melon balls as possible, it’s time to decorate your watermelon! Use a marker to draw your design on the front of your melon. I’m going for a heart-eye emoji, so I’m using heart-shaped cookie cutters to create the eyes.
If you’re using cookie cutters, a rubber mallet can help you tap the cutters into the melon rind. You’ll still more than likely need to help finish the cuts with your knife, but this gives you a good starting point.
Once you’ve finished carving your Emoji Watermelon, fill it back up with your melon balls and any other fresh fruit you choose. You can give your melon balls an extra kick by marinating them in a few cups of Minute Maid Lemonade. Let them soak in the lemonade inside of your refrigerator until you’re ready to serve. Your fruit can also serve as a fun garnish for your glass of Minute Maid Lemonade or FUZE Tea.
Or just serve your lemonade or tea over ice. It’s the perfect way to celebrate summer!
