Have you ever seen a piece of jewelry in the store but something just wasn’t quite right? Or maybe it was broken? With a few tools you can switch out a chain or make a simple jewelry repair.
This robot necklace was totally cute and on sale for next to nothing. I wasn’t in love with the shiny silver chain, though.I picked up a set of darker chains from the craft store. Those, along with jewelry pliers, are all you need to make the switch.
Start by using the pliers to open the jump ring and remove the robot charm. The jump ring is just that large metal circle connecting the chain to the extender.
Use the small pliers to hold the jump ring in place while you use the needle nose pliers to reconnect the jump ring. Save the chain-you can use it for another project! The chain I picked up at the craft store was actually a set of three small chains. I used the jewelry snips to cut off the clasp of one chain and used my pliers to connect two chains together. This is a little bit harder than connecting with a jump ring, but still possible with a little patience and a steady hand. Place the charm on the chain and then connect the chain to the clasp using the pliers and jump ring. Just two minutes and your necklace has a whole new look!
