If you’ve visited here before, you might know that movie night crafts and snacks are kind of my jam. It’s a way to combine my love of movies and my love of making things. And Finding Dory? How could you not want to make all the Dory things? (Seriously, check out my Finding Dory snack cups and the Dory pumpkin I made for Fandango. I love that fish!) One thing I hadn’t made? Dory cookies. At least I hadn’t made Dory cookies until now!
You’ll need:
- double stuffed sandwich cookies
- blue, yellow and black candy melts
- plastic snack bags
- wax paper
- candy eyes
Start by tracing out some fin and mouth shapes on a piece of paper and covering that with a sheet of wax paper. I considered making a template for you guys, but then I decided that the shapes were so simple that it might be considered an insult to your abilities.
I’ve never tried melting candy in plastic bags before, but I figured now was as good a time as any to give it a shot. Use snack size plastic bags and slowly melt your candy on half power, 30 seconds at a time. After each beep of the microwave, massage the bags a little to disperse the hot spots. Once everything is fully melted, snip off the corner of each bag and pipe the candy onto your template. They might look like a hot mess, but know that the magic of candy melts is when you flip them over.
Dip chocolate sandwich cookies in blue candy and place them on wax paper to set. Add your candy eyes, fins and mouths before the candy coating hardens!
