I was lucky enough to screen Ant-Man and the Wasp when I was in LA for the #AntManandtheWaspEvent. The film is a lot of fun, and the perfect antidote if you’re still feeling a little overwhelmed by the events of Avengers:Infinity War. What should you know before you head to the theater?
Is Ant-Man and the Wasp a standalone film?
Ant-Man and the Wasp picks up two years after the events of Captain America: Civil War. There is enough exposition within the film to follow along with the story if you haven’t seen the original Ant-Man or Civil War. As with any film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, “it’s all connected”, meaning that seeing those two films before you head to the theater will give a lot more background and will likely increase your enjoyment of the film. And also, really, you should have seen Avengers: Infinity War. I’m not saying that because it’s tied into the film. Or I am? Guess you’ll just have to watch…
Is Ant-Man and the Wasp a family film?
Family, specifically fathers and daughters, are a major theme of the film. There’s plenty of action, including some pretty amazing chase sequences, but nothing bloody or too violent. The film is rated PG-13 for “some sci-fi action violence”, but you should feel pretty comfortable taking younger children to see the film. Especially if your kids are already familiar with Ant-Man or other films in the MCU.
Should you see Ant-Man and the Wasp in IMAX or 3D?
I screened Ant-Man and the Wasp in 3D, and it was good 3D. I’m admittedly not the biggest fan of seeing films in 3D, so you can take my “skip the 3D” with a grain of salt. There are some pretty epic action sequences that could be a lot of fun to view in IMAX, so if that’s an option, it could be worth checking out. All things considered, though, seeing the movie in standard format shouldn’t take anything away from the experience.
Should you stay through the credits for Ant-Man and the Wasp?
This is a Marvel film. Of course you should stay through the credits of Ant-Man the Wasp. There’s a mid-credit and ending stinger that you’ll definitely want to see. Stay put. Tell everyone around you to stay put. Seriously, it’s been ten years. Why are there still people that get up as soon as the credits start to roll?
Will the Wasp be your new favorite superhero?
Yes.
