A few years ago a friend mentioned taking something on for Lent instead of giving something up. I thought it was a neat idea, but it was too late to start that year. (I was probably at least a week into giving up sugar at that point, anyway.)
When Lent rolled around this year and I was thinking about what to give up I remembered what she said. I have given up sugar, soda and all sorts of other things for Lent. In every case I was right back doing whatever I gave up as soon as Easter hit. It wasn’t as if the things I gave up had created any long lasting good habits. That’s when I decided this year I was taking something on instead of giving something up. I was going to work out. Every day. For 40 days. I didn’t want to get too specific because I didn’t want to set myself up for failure. I was simply going to do a minimum of 30 minutes of exercise a night.
I have no excuses to not work out. My guest room is full of exercise equipment. I have the pilates reformer I bought a few months ago. My mom gave me the rebounder during a recent visit. But what is really working for me is the bike.
