Afternoon tea is one of those things everyone should do at least once in their life. Tea at Harrods is one of my all time favorite vacation memories. It’s also the inspiration for my Ice Cream Tea Party. Get those pinkies up-it’s time for a tea party!
Any proper tea party should have a dress up component. What’s the point if you’re not completely blinged out? There’s no reason to hit the costume shop, however. Just raid your closets. A few scarves, a few necklaces, a few hats…that’s really all you need. Little people love anything that’s sparkly. That’s a scientific fact.
Want another scientific fact? Little people also love Blue Bunny® Ice Cream. As do big people. Really, everyone loves ice cream. I picked up some of my favorite flavors in their new clear packaging to create all of my tea party courses. That’s right. Three courses. All with ice cream.
I kept the decorations simple: a few doilies and accessories in pastel colors, along with vintage-looking tea cups and serveware. This is a great opportunity to hit the thrift store or your grandmother’s kitchen cabinets!
I wasn’t able to find plates for the party that I really loved, so I picked up a few inexpensive glass plates and DIY’ed a gilt edge with a permanent gold marker. It was even easier than I anticipated! I found it helpful to put the plates on a cake pedestal that turned while I was drawing on the edges.
The first course of afternoon tea it typically a few delicate sandwiches. Cucumbers, crust cut off-that sort of thing. I decided to stick with the sandwich course, but adapted it to fit the ice cream theme. When I spotted Italian Waffle Cookies, I knew they would be a fun twist on the traditional chocolate chip cookie ice cream sandwich. Sort of like ice cream in a waffle cone, but in sandwich form. And they really were delicious. I went for Bunny Tracks® when I was making my own sandwich..for obvious reasons.
After sandwiches come the scones. These biscuit-like baked goods are not something I typically make. (I don’t even make biscuits…and I’m southern.) I was, however, willing to give it a shot when I found out you can make scones with ice cream.
- 2 1/2 Cups Blue Bunny® Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream, melted
- 3 Cups All Purpose Flour
- Preheat over to 350 degrees.
- Fold flour into ice cream.
- Gently knead dough into ball. Add more flour as necessary.
- Roll onto lightly floured surface.
- Cut dough into three inch rounds.
- Bake for 15 minutes or until cooked through.
After scones it’s time for cake. And obviously an ice cream-themed party has to have an ice cream-themed cake!
- Blue Bunny® Cherry Pickin’ Chocolate™ Ice Cream
- Brownie Mix, Plus Ingredients
- Smucker’s Magic Shell Chocolate Fudge Flavored Topping
- Line springform pan with parchment paper on bottom and sides.
- Prepare brownie mix according to package directions.
- Pour just enough brownie mix into pan to cover the bottom.
- Bake until done.
- Add slightly softened ice cream to top of cooled brownie, smoothing to edges of pan.
- Freeze until fully set.
- Remove from pan.
- Top with Magic Shell.
If you love chocolate covered cherries, you’ll love this cake. It’s also one of the easiest cakes you’ll ever make.
Actually, the whole party is really easy. It’s perfect for a little girl’s summer birthday party, a play date or even a special mother/daughter day.
