Thank you to Disney for sponsoring my attendance at #TheBFGEvent!
When I was a little girl, I was a totally obsessive reader. (I still am, for that matter…) The concept of bedtime had no meaning to me. There was always time for just one more chapter before going to sleep. This is probably why I’ve never been a morning person…
Roald Dahl can claim responsibility for so many missed bedtimes with stories like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda, and James and the Giant Peach. The BFG, his personal favorite, is making its way to the big screen on July 1, 2016 and we’ll all finally see Giant Country come to life!
From July 20-22 I’ll be in LA to attend the red carpet premiere of The BFG. I managed to not totally embarrass myself by falling into any celebrities back in April when I was at The Jungle Book premiere. But hey, there’s always a second chance, right?
Follow the event hashtag (#TheBFGEvent) on June 21 to see highlights from our interviews with Ruby Barnhill (Sophie), Jemaine Clement (Fleshlumpeater), Penelope Wilton (The Queen), Rebecca Hall (Mary), recent Academy Award winner Mark Rylance (The BFG) and (I think I’m going to pass out) Director Steven Spielberg. I’ll share full details from the interviews a little later here on the blog-including an update on if I did indeed pass out!
The talents of three of the world’s greatest storytellers – Roald Dahl, Walt Disney and Steven Spielberg –finally unite to bring Dahl’s beloved classic The BFG to life. Directed by Spielberg, Disney’s The BFG tells the imaginative story of a young girl and the Giant who introduces her to the wonders and perils of Giant Country.
The BFG opens in U.S. theaters on July 1, 2016, the year that marks the 100th anniversary of Dahl’s birth.
On June 22 I’ll be headed to Disney Toon Studios to screen the upcoming Disney XD animated series Future-Worm!, created and executive produced by Emmy Award-winner Ryan Quincy. Future-Worm! is an offbeat comedy adventure that follows Danny, an optimistic 12-year-old, who creates a time machine lunch box and befriends Future Worm, a fearless worm from the future with titanium-enforced abs.
After the screening we’ll sit down for a Q&A with Ryan Quincy. Follow along with the event hashtag #FutureWormEvent for updates. Catch Future-Worm! later this summer on Disney XD!
I’m super excited to screen Queen of Katwe while we’re in LA. We interviewed Lupita Nyong’o during The Jungle Book Event, but we also met David Oyelowo at the premiere party. So, you know, I’m going to pretend like I’m watching a movie staring two of my friends during the screening…
Queen of Katwe is the colorful true story of a young girl selling corn on the streets of rural Uganda whose world rapidly changes when she is introduced to the game of chess, and, as a result of the support she receives from her family and community, is instilled with the confidence and determination she needs to pursue her dream of becoming an international chess champion.
Disney’s Queen of Katwe opens in theaters on September 23, 2016. Follow along at #QueenofKatwe.
I’ll be sharing all of the fun on Instagram, Facebook and Twitter. You can also follow #TheBFGEvent hashtag on all social channels to catch the latest updates. #TheBFGEvent is June 20-22, but stay tuned for full coverage after the event right here on As The Bunny Hops.
