One thing is clear: Katee Sackhoff is where she always wanted to be as part of the Star Wars universe. The actor first joined the franchise as the voice of Bo-Katan Kryze in The Clone Wars and Rebels animated series.
Sackhoff always expected a bigger name to get the part when Bo-Katan joined the cast in the second season of The Mandalorian. “To be able to start with her 10 years ago, and the fact that they trusted me to take her into live-action? I’m still pinching myself.”
“My dad raised me on science fiction and he raised me on strong characters,” says Sackhoff. Strong female characters were few and far between, however, as she was growing up. “We had Sigourney and Linda and Lucy Lawless, but I wanted to be Bruce Willis and I wanted to save the Nakatomi building.”
“To be able to play the women that I have been able to play throughout my career has been such a gift,” continues Sackhoff. “And strong women keep presenting themselves to me.” She credits Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni for creating so many strong characters in the Star Wars Universe. “The fact that they’re women? They’re just women.”
When it comes to where her head is at for season three, Sackoff joked, “Her head’s still attached to her body.”
Whatever lies ahead in season three, Sackhoff is ready for the fans to enjoy a little more time onscreen with Bo-Katan Kryze. “The fact that you guys love her, flaws and all, means the world.”
Season 3 of The Mandalorian is set to launch exclusively on Disney+ in February 2023.
