This started out as a completely different project. When my nieces moved into their new house, I promised to make them artwork for their walls. I even went so far as to purchase the canvases. I then promptly forgot all about it. Oops!
Rather than letting the canvases languish in craft purgatory forever, I though I’d help them create their own works of art instead.
The original plan when I was the painter was to create something with their names.
That was still the plan. I started by using my Silhouette to cut out their names in vinyl. Don’t have a Silhouette? You can accomplish the same thing with letter stickers available from the craft store.
Once we applied their names to the canvases, it was time to paint.
We used brushes. We used sponges. There were no rules. We used my stash of acrylic paints, which meant easy clean up if they got any on the floor. Which they totally did.
After the paint was dry, we just peeled off the vinyl letters.
It’s possible that revealing the names is the best part of this craft. It’s magic!
This is fun kids activity for indoors or out. As long as you use washable paint, clean up is a snap! Best of all, it’s fun to see what they’ll make!
