When I was a kid, we covered a shoebox in construction paper and bought paper Valentines at the store. If you were really lucky someone brought in those cards that held the red heart-shaped lollipops. (Those are still my favorite!) There’s also nothing wrong if you still cover shoeboxes in construction paper and pass out storebought cards. If you’re feeling a little extra, however, I have an idea. Make your favorite little LOL Surprise! fan this LOL Surprise! Valentines Mailbox!
How To Make An LOL Surprise! Valentines Mailbox
To make your own LOL Surprise! Valentine’s Day Mailbox, you’ll need:
- Large Paper Lantern
- Tissue Paper (same color as lantern)
- Glue Stick
- Glue Dot Runner
- Hot Glue and Glue Gun
- Cardboard
- Craft Knife
- Scissors
- Wire Cutters
- LOL Surprise Logo (printed on copy paper)
Start by assembling your lantern. Use wire cutters to snip off the piece of metal that is used to hang the lantern. Cut cardboard into two circles slightly larger than the openings on the top and bottom of your lantern. (I had cake circles on hand and used those.) Use a craft knife to carve a slot in the top of one cardboard circle. This will give the wire that extends beyond the bottom edge of the lantern a place to rest.
Run a glue stick over the entire surface of the cardboard and cover it with a piece of tissue paper, tucking and gluing the edges underneath. Use hot glue to attach the cardboard circle to the bottom of your lantern to create a base.
Cut out your LOL Surprise! logo (just grab them from the internet) and attach it to the front of the lantern with a glue dot runner. Do this before you attach the top to your mailbox because it can be helpful to put one hand inside the lantern as you press down on the cutout. You don’t want to be too heavy-handed and bust right through the lantern!
Use a craft knife to cut a slot in your second cardboard circle that is big enough for Valentines to go inside. You’ll also need to cut out a place in the bottom (don’t go all the way through) that gives the wire part of the lantern that sticks beyond the edge a place to rest. Cover this with tissue paper and hot glue it to the top of your lantern to create your mailbox.
Your mailbox is ready to accept all of those Valentines! And hey, if you live in an area where they are sliding full-sized candy bars into your mailbox, just make the opening a little bigger. There’s plenty of room!
