Literally everyone in my family has a connection to education. My mom was a teacher. My sisters teach. I worked for over a decade in early education. That’s why I know how hard teachers work to outfit their classrooms and just how much money comes from their own pockets. It’s also why I collect Box Tops for Education. I’m buying the products anyway. It only makes sense to clip the Box Tops for my sisters or nieces to redeem.
Of course, that does raise a problem. Where do I store the Box Tops until I turn them in? I would absolutely lose them if I threw them in a drawer. That’s why I made a magnetic Box Tops holder to keep on my fridge.
When you visit Walmart and buy 5 participating items you can earn $5 (that’s 50 bonus Box Tops!) by scanning your receipt with the Box Tops Bonus App. That’s in addition to the on-box Box Tops and any other coupons or discounts that might be going on. The offer is good through the end of January 2018.
Look for Honey Nut Cheerios™, Yoplait® Original Fridge Packs, Mott’s Medleys® Fruit Snacks, Nature Valley™ Oats N Honey Granola Bars, Totino’s™ Combination Pizza Party Pack, Annie’s™ Cheddar Bunnies, Pillsbury™ Toaster Strudel™, and Old El Paso™ Taco Dinner Kit on your next shopping trip and make sure you scan your receipt!
You’ll also want to make sure you save at least one of the boxes to use for your own magnetic Box Tops holder.
You can make your holder any size you like. (I chose 2″ tall.) Use a ruler and a craft knife to cut off the end of your box.
To make the box narrower, cut it in half and slip one half of the box inside of the other. Seal it with masking tape.
You can decorate your box in a variety of ways, but I picked out a few rolls of washi tape to cover mine. You can do stripes of tape, or just rip and place for a patchwork effect.
Once the box is fully covered, inside and out, brush on a coat of decoupage medium. You can even print out the Box Tops logo to go on the front. If you use an inkjet printer, the ink can bleed when you brush on the decoupage. Fix that by applying a sealer (if you have any) or “laminating” it with clear packing tape.
When your decoupage medium is dry, add magnets to the back of your box so it’s ready to hang on the fridge. Although magnet tape isn’t particularly strong, it’s more than enough to support the weight of your Box Tops. (Especially if you go over the top like I did and use three strips of it!)
Place it on your fridge and you’ll have a handy place to collect your Box Tops until you’re ready to share them with your school!
