Thank you to Zima for sponsoring these Jolly Rancher Shot Glasses.
I usually feel pretty young, despite what my driver’s license says. When I remember that it’s been about 20 years since I’ve enjoyed a Zima®? Well, then I feel pretty old. Luckily, Zima® is back. Suddenly it’s the 90s again!
Back in the 90s, my two favorite ways to enjoy a Zima® were with a splash of grenadine or with a Jolly Rancher in the bottle. To celebrate Zima®’s limited edition return, I’m sharing two different ways you can get that flavor by making homemade candy glasses!
How to make Jolly Rancher Shot Glasses
To make your own candy glasses, you’ll need a silicone shot glass mold and a large bag of hard candies. Stuff the mold full of candies. You can use kitchen shears to cut candies in half if you need to in order for them to fit. Place the mold on a cookie sheet and place it in the oven at 350 degrees for about 9 minutes. Take the mold out of the oven and use a popsicle stick to press down on the top of the melted candy. Be careful; candy burns are not fun, so you’ll want to avoid letting it get on your skin. You need to press out any large air bubbles and clean up any candy that’s melted over the edges. Put the mold back in the oven for another minute or two to finishing melting.
Once the candy has fully melted and you’ve pressed down any large air bubbles on the top, remove the mold from the oven and allow the candy to harden.
Once the candy glasses have hardened, remove them from the silicon mold.
Fill with Zima® and enjoy a taste of the 90s!
You can mix and match your candy colors, or make solid colored glasses-whichever you prefer!
Homemade Hard Candy Recipe
If you prefer to make your candy from scratch, that works, too!
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 2/3 cup light corn syrup
- 1/4 cup water
- 1 tsp candy flavoring
- food coloring
- 1/2 tsp citric acid
- Combine sugar, corn syrup and water in a saucepan and heat over medium heat, stirring until sugar is dissolved.
- Add a candy thermometer and bring mixture to a boil.
- At 260 degrees, add a few drops of food coloring. Do not stir.
- Remove from heat immediately when candy reaches 300 degrees.
- When boiling stops add in candy flavoring and citric acid and stir.
- Pour candy into a mold and allow to harden.
Once your candy has hardened, remove it from the mold and celebrate another way to enjoy your Zima®.
