Don’t mind me. I’m just over here DYING because I made the cutest purse in the history of purses. After coveting the super cute Orange Bird Purse available at ShopDisney and The Dress Shop, I finally decided the fiscally responsible option would be making one for myself. Besides, that leaves me plenty of money left over to buy the Orange Bird wallet….
The purse starts with this adorable orange-as in both the fruit and the color-purse I purchased from AliExpress. The same purse is available on Amazon for a little more money if you’re not willing to wait out those extended AliExpress shipping times. The orange purse is super cute just as it is, but it needed a little Disney DIY to turn into Orange Bird.
How To Make An Orange Bird Purse
For the face I grabbed some vinyl from my stash and my Silhouette. I used black, white, yellow and oxblood colored vinyl, all of which I found in this vinyl pack from Amazon. You could easily get away with swapping out that oxblood color for another dark color (like brown) that would contrast for the beak. If you have a Silhouette, grab my Silhouette cut file. If you have a Cricut, visit the Cricut Design Space for the file.
If you don’t have a digital cutter, the easiest thing to do is is to find a willing crafter and have them cut the face for you. You can also grab a few sheets of vinyl from the craft store and cut out the design by hand. It’s fairly straight forward, so if you take your time and use really sharp scissors, I have total faith in your ability to make this happen.
In addition to adding the vinyl face, I also painted the leaf on the purse a brighter green. To do this, cover the surrounding areas of the purse and the white flower with painters tape and carefully brush on green acrylic paint that has been diluted with a little rubbing alcohol. Getting good coverage takes many coats, and keeping the paint nice and neat takes patience. Finish off the leaf with a coat of satin varnish. If you get any paint on your purse where it’s not wanted, dip a brush in rubbing alcohol and brush it on the spot you need to clean up.
This Orange Bird purse makes a perfect addition to an Orange Bird Dapper Day outfit-or to any day that needs a little extra Sunshine (Terrace)!
