I can cook. I can bake. I do a passable job at both. Heck, probably more than passable when it comes to baking. That doesn’t mean I love cooking and baking. I like cooking and baking. I love craft projects. So obviously when I’m thinking about plans for Easter, I’d much rather make a new spring pie stand than make my own pie.
Marie Callender’s® pies from Walmart can help. They’re homemade quality with special touches and real ingredients. They’re also super convenient and affordable. So the pie is covered…but what should we serve it on?
To make your own custom pie stand, you’ll need:
- Plate
- Candle Holder
- Glue
- Spray Paint
Getting a good result here is about two things. Getting the right candle holder and getting good spray paint. I’ve seen similar cupcake stands and pie stands done with candle holders that are too small or ones that really look like a candle holder even after it’s done. Look for one that’s thick and sturdy.
Add a generous ring of glue around the top of your candle holder. It’s important that you choose a glue that is waterproof so that it will hold up when you rinse or wipe off the pie stand.
Attach the candle holder to the bottom of the plate. Allow it to dry before painting, although you can start to paint before the glue is fully cured. You just want it stable enough that your candle holder won’t slide around while you paint.
Give it a few coats of spray paint in your favorite color. I am loving this shade called “sea glass”. It’s perfect for your Easter tablescape.
Quality spray paint is going to give you a must better result, so skip the $.99 cans and go for one that costs a few dollars. Don’t worry-the entire project will still run you around $10, at most, so it’s not a budget buster. It will cost even less if you can find the supplies already in your house.
Once your spray paint has fully dried, top your new pie stand with your chocolate satin pie from Marie Callender’s®. Remember that since you used spray paint, the pie stand shouldn’t be considered food safe. Always have a layer between it and your food. A plate, a cake round, a pie tin…anything will work.
