American Girl provided the Mega Bloks set featured in this post.
American Girl has debuted it’s first-ever line of construction toys for girls ages 8 and up. The sets feature mini-figures based on the “Girl of the Year” line. Look for a variety of sets featuring Grace, Isabelle, Saige, McKenna, and Nicki; ranging in price from $3.99 to $69.99. They’re currently exclusive to Toys “R” Us, but will be expanding in July of 2016 to other retailers.
American Girl sent us the “Isabelle’s Ballet Studio” set to check out.
Although I’ve played with my fair share of building blocks, this was my first attempt to build something with a specific end product in mind. Luckily, I had Aly on hand to help me. (We pretty quickly discovered that Aly’s job was to build, Kyn’s job was to play with what we built.)
I’m not a “read the instructions” type. So it’s possible there’s a better way to do this than just dumping out all of the blocks. However, dumping out all of the blocks in one big pile was the path we chose.
The directions for each piece were picture based and easy to follow. Actually, the only challenge was finding the right pieces when we needed them. You know, a situation that could probably have been avoided with a proper organizational system during the unboxing process.
The set was super cute and full of little details, down to art hanging on the walls.
Isabelle’s Ballet Studio even had a real curtain that could be placed in front of or behind the stage!
We were able to put the entire set together in one night, relatively quickly. (You know, outside of distractions like dinner and an Easter egg hunt.) It was also surprisingly un-frustrating for something with so many little pieces! Check out your local Toys “R” Us to see the other sets for yourself!
