This Scoob!-inspired Mystery Machine Flower Necklace includes a supply list containing affilate links.
I’ve always loved the retro vibe of The Mystery Machine. When I got the cutest promotional Mystery Machine popcorn holder in the mail to celebrate the release of Scoob!, I knew it would inspire something fun. In this case, it inspired me to break out my shrink plastic-also very retro-to make a flower necklace!
How To Make A Shrink Plastic Necklace
To make your own Mystery Machine Flower Necklace, you’ll need:
- Printable Shrink Plastic
- 2 Inch Paper Punch
- Drill with 1/16th Inch Bit
- Clear Embossing Powder
- Jump Rings and Jewelry Pliers
I sized out a printable featuring the flower from the front of The Mystery Machine at 2 inches. If you want to make your necklace a different size, grab the flower above and resize it however you like. You always need to brighten your images by about 50% when you’re using printable shrink plastic, but here I’ve already done that for you.
You can cut printable shrink plastic with scissors, but the easiest way to do this quickly and neatly is to use a 2 inch paper punch.
Place your cut out pieces of shrink plastic on a parchment paper-lined cookie sheet and place them in the oven at 350 degrees until they’re fully shrunk. When you remove them from the oven, have an object like a spatula handy to press them down. This keeps the corners from curling up.
Sprinkle the top of your charm with clear embossing powder and place them back in the oven. The embossing powder will melt and create a glossy finish.
Use a 1/16 inch drill bit to drill a small hole in the top of your Mystery Machine charm. Add a jump ring and a chain and your Mystery Machine necklace is ready to wear!
