It’s Christmas. All Christmas. All the Time. My schedule is officially crazy. How about yours? I’m still trying to figure out exactly when I’ll be where and what I’ll be making for everything. Will you be responsible for entertaining some kids this season? One of my new favorite holiday ideas? These fun candy cane lollipops! They’re easy to make. They’re crafty. They’re delicious. What more could you want? It all starts with the WONKA® SWEETARTS® Candy Canes I picked up at Walmart. There’s plenty of peppermint everywhere this time of year. It’s fun to play with the fruity flavors of these candy canes. They come in blue punch, green apple and cherry. All you’ll need to make your lollipops are the candy canes, lollipop sticks and parchment paper. Line up your unwrapped candy canes on the parchment paper on top of a cookie sheet. Turn the oven on to 350 degrees. Place the candy canes in the oven for a minute or two. You’ll need to keep a close eye on this. Once the candy canes start to soften, carefully remove the parchment paper from the oven, leaving the cookie sheet in the oven and leaving the oven on. Start to shape the candy canes around the stick in whatever design you would like. They cool quickly, so make sure you only work with a few at a time. If they get too cool you can pop them back in the oven for a few seconds. It’s easy to work the candy canes with your hands-as long as they’re soft and not melted you shouldn’t burn yourself. Do use an abundance of caution and test the temperature of the candy with the tip of your finger before scooping them up to shape them. Kids will have a ball making these. Just use your best judgment when it comes to how old they should be before you try this.
Will your lollipops be perfect? Absolutely not. But they’ll be totally fun. They’ll also get better the more you practice. First attempt on the left. Second attempt on the right. You can try different shapes. No need to stick to round lollipops. Is it just me, or does my second attempt look like the caterpillar in Alice In Wonderland? And just remember that practice doesn’t always make perfect. Some are just not going to be as adorable as you’d like. They’ll still taste great and be fun, though! That’s really all that matters.
