Are you familiar with shrubs? No. Not the greenery in front of your house! I’m talking about a drink that dates back to the colonial era. There are multiple variations, but in this case we’re talking about a rum cocktail with a raspberry fruit vinegar and ginger ale. Sounds interesting, right?
I was sent samples of Mangé’s fruit vinegars, including raspberry. Mangé’s is currently involved in a kickstarter campaign to fund their production efforts. The samples gave me the perfect opportunity to try my hand at making a shrub of my own.
This is an interesting drink-and I do mean that in a good way. It’s one of those cocktails that you keep sipping, because you notice something new each time. The vinegar keeps the cocktail from getting too sweet and it adds a unique kick. The next time you want to experiment with a new cocktail, give a rum shrub a try!
- 1 oz Raspberry Fruit Vinegar
- 3 oz Rum
- 6 oz Ginger Ale
- Mix ingredients in a tall glass. Serve with ice.
