Sometimes the simplest crafts are the most fun. Not a crafter? Don’t worry! As long as you aren’t scared of your glue gun, you can absolutely make this Dumbo hair bow that’s inspired by his red and yellow neck ruffle.
Hair Bow Supplies
To make your own Dumb Hair Bow, you’ll need:
- Wide Red Satin Ribbon
- Narrow Yellow Satin Ribbon
- Glue Dot Runner
- Hot Glue Gun
- Barrette or Hair Clip
- Red Craft Felt
You can make this Dumb hair clip as big or as small as you’d like. Just make sure your ribbon is wide enough to cover your barrette or clip.
Start your Dumbo barrette by running your glue dot runner down a piece of yellow ribbon. Carefully place the yellow ribbon in the center of the red ribbon. The glue dot runner will hold the yellow ribbon securely in place and it’s much easier and neater than trying to use hot glue or fabric glue.
Create a loop of the yellow and red ribbon and secure it together with hot glue. I like to burn the ends of my ribbon with a lighter to keep the ribbon from fraying, but that’s an optional step.
Fold a piece of your red ribbon in half and carefully press it with a clothes iron on low heat. Add a stripe of yellow ribbon down the center with your glue dot runner.
Gather your ribbon loop in the middle and wrap the half size piece of ribbon around the center, securing it with hot glue as neatly as possible. Take your time doing this and adjust the ribbon as needed to get the right shape.
Ribbons glued directly on a metal barrette or hair clip can pop off. An easy way to keep this from happening is to cut a small rectangle of red felt and hot glue it around the hair clip. You can then glue the bow directly to the felt.
Fluff up your Dumbo bow and it’s ready to add to your hair!
