This month’s SIMPLE Service Project is sponsored by Arm & Hammer Spinbrush. Did you know that 19% of children between the ages of 2 and 19 have untreated cavities? Children living in poverty suffer from twice as much tooth decay as their peers. Those who have oral disease can face both physical pain and embarrassment about their smiles.
Proper brushing and flossing is the first line of defense in fighting tooth decay. Of course that means all children need access to the basic necessities like toothbrushes, dental floss and toothpaste.
That’s why I’m thrilled to be a part of this month’s SIMPLE Service Project. I’ll be collecting oral care supplies to donate to the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina. In addition to food they collect personal hygiene products to distribute to those in need. The summer is a time of particular need for food banks. Demand increases as children who normally receive free and reduced price lunch are out of school.
I’ve already started my collection-and I hope to get additional supplies from friends and coworkers. (I know I won’t be able to resist adding some food to the donation as well.)
You can view the entire shopping trip to start my donation in my Google+ story. You can also be a part of Champions for Kids yourself! Just shop for oral care supplies and donate them to a worthwhile organization in your own community. Then report back to Champions for Kids about your participation so they can count you as one of their Champions!
