Let’s talk one more time about Star Wars: The Force Awakens before it opens in theaters. I’ve seen the movie. It’s amazing. I’m also not sharing any spoilers today, as I have friends who would cause me great physical harm if they heard any before they had a chance to see it in person. So in the interest of being completely spoiler-free, I’m sharing pretty photos and a few of my own personal and very shallow observations.
The red carpet premier was held on December 14, 2015 in Hollywood and looked completely amazing.
And that last picture is everything…
So let’s talk about the movie. In my totally spoiler-free, I’m not gonna ruin anything kind of way.
I want to be best friends with Rey.
Don’t misunderstand. I’d never be cool enough to be best friends with Rey. That doesn’t mean I wouldn’t still try. The movie world could use a lot more character’s like Daisy Ridley’s Rey. You know, badass, independent females getting things done.
Stormtroopers have feelings, too.
Well Finn does. I mean, it’s been well established that he starts off as a Stormtrooper in the film, and it’s pretty clear even from the trailer that he’s going through a rough time emotionally, right?
Also, someone mentioned during the global unboxing event that the new stormtrooper helmets looked as though they were crying. I can now not un-see that every time they’re on-screen.
I still love Han Solo.
I say it in every post I write about Star Wars, so this should be no exception. I’ve loved Han Solo since I was 8 years old. Seeing him on-screen again pretty much makes the movie. At least for me. The “we’re home” still gets me, even if I’ve seen it a few hundred times by this point. It’s even better when it’s part of the movie and not just in a trailer.
I also love Poe.
Just because I have a long-standing love for Han Solo doesn’t mean I can’t have a new movie crush, too. This time it’s Oscar Isaac’s Poe. He did not get nearly enough time on screen for my tastes. So, you know, if I had to criticize the movie, that would be it. More Poe.
I need a BB-8.
Before I saw the movie I wanted a BB-8. I now need a BB-8. So, you know…this is where my Christmas money will be going. Assuming I can find one. Because everyone else will want one, too.
Who should see it?
Well, everyone. Obviously. Especially fans of the original trilogy. And the kids of fans of the original trilogy. And like I said, everyone. There’s no language and the action is on par with other films in the franchise, so you can judge age appropriateness accordingly. I saw the film in 2D, and I really think this film is IMAX worthy. If that’s an option, go for it. If not? It still impresses in 2D. The movie is rated PG 13 and has a run time of 136 minutes.
