Steamboat Willie Pumpkin
Want to make your own DIY Steamboat Willie Pumpkin? You’ll need:
- Pumpkin (Real or Craft)
- Black & Gray Craft Paint
- Paint Brushes
- Masking Tape
- Black Craft Foam
- White Craft Foam
- Scissors
- Hot Glue
If using a real pumpkin, your first step is painting it black. If you use a craft pumpkin, pick up a black one and you can skip that step. Place masking tape around the pumpkin at the halfway point. The secret to getting a clean line when you paint use masking tape is giving whatever you’re painting a coat of the background color first. Paint over the bottom edge of the tape with black paint, then paint the entire bottom half of the pumpkin with gray paint. Remove the tape and use a small brush to touch any spots that might need it.
Create a small hat for your pumpkin out of craft foam and hot glue. You can gently shape the craft foam by applying heat with a heat tool or hair dryer.
Find round objects in appropriate sizes to use as templates when you cut out your ears and buttons from craft foam. (I used a DVD and a jar lid.) Use hot glue to attach the ears and buttons to the pumpkin. (Even though I used black foam, I still painted the ears so that they would blend in with the pumpkin) Once all of your paint is dry and all of your embellishments have been glued, your Steamboat Willie pumpkin is ready to display!
