Maya Rudolph Is The Relatable Mom Who Holds The Family Together In “The Mitchells Vs. The Machines”

In the words of Maya Rudolph, who voices mom Linda Mitchell in Netflix’s upcoming The Mitchells Vs The Machines, “[Linda] really acts as the glue for the family.” That glue is something the family will desperately need as they encounter a robot uprising on their cross-country road trip.

As anyone who ever took part in an extended family road trip can tell you, there is always some stress and more than a few bumps in the road. “There’s a lot of dysfunction going on,” says Rudolph. “And [Linda] inserts herself whenever she needs to because family is the most important thing to her.”

The Mitchells Vs The Machines features a cast of quirky characters who all manage to be grounded in reality just enough to be relatable. As the mom, Maya Rudolph’s character might be the most relatable of all. “Linda’s happy if everyone else is happy,” says Rudolph. “I think she’s just got this big heart and that’s who she is. And she wears it on her sleeve.”

“We are all beautifully imperfect,” continues Rudolph. With a message of learning to love both your family and yourself, even with all of your innate quirks, The Mitchells Vs The Machines needed the character of Linda to show everyone that they were stronger as a family when they were working together. “I love when you see something and it reminds you that you’re not alone.”

You can meet Linda Mitchell and the rest of her family when The Mitchells vs. The Machines begins streaming on Netflix on April 30, 2021.

About The Mitchells Vs The Machines

From the humans who brought you the Academy Award-winning Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and The LEGO Movie comes The Mitchells vs. The Machines, an animated action-comedy about an ordinary family who find themselves in the middle of their biggest family challenge yet…saving the world from the robot apocalypse. No big deal, right? It all starts when creative outsider Katie Mitchell is accepted into the film school of her dreams and is eager to leave home and find “her people,” when her nature-loving dad insists on having the whole family drive her to school and bond during one last totally-not-awkward-or-forced road trip. But just when the trip can’t get any worse, the family suddenly finds itself in the middle of the robot uprising! Everything from smart phones, to roombas, to evil Furbys are employed to capture every human on the planet. Now it’s up to the Mitchells, including upbeat mom Linda, quirky little brother Aaron, their squishy pug, Monchi, and two friendly, but simple-minded robots to save humanity. Directed by Michael Rianda (Gravity Falls), produced by Oscar winners Phil Lord and Chris Miller, and Kurt Albrecht, and featuring the voices of Abbi Jacobson, Danny McBride, Maya Rudolph, Beck Bennett, Fred Armisen, Eric Andre, and Oscar winner Olivia Colman, The Mitchells vs. The Machines is about embracing the things that make us unique, learning what it means to be human in a world increasingly filled with technology, and holding tight to the people most important to you when the unexpected hits.!
