{Tutorial} Hand Painted Rocking Chair

All you need to create your own “after” is a piece of furniture that needs a little love, spray paint and Elmer’s Painters Paint Markers.
This little yellow rocker has a long history. It was mine as a baby. It’s spent the last few years moving from attic to closet and finally making its way to my house. It has a lot of sentimental value, but it’s also seen better days.
I found a hand painted chair from DesignSponge.com pinned on Pinterest. That was giving me an idea or two about my little chair…
A peek on Etsy showed me that hand painted rocking chairs were plentiful but expensive to purchase. I think I can make this handmade designer look for less.
A few coats of white spray paint were all I needed to get started on my project. I learned a valuable lesson here-you get what you pay for with spray paint. For a few dollars more the paint I purchased this time was easy to use and did not drip. No more $.99 spray paint for me!
The next step was to start decorating with my Elmer’s Painters Paint Markers. I was hand painting the flowers and leaves from my kitchen curtains. The easy graphic design was very forgiving. (If hand painting makes you nervous you can use a stencil or sketch out your design before hand with a pencil.)
Although I was using mostly black Painters Markers I had a white marker on hand to touch up any goofs. (Like the one I made here!)
And here’s my finished chair. It was really easy. Time-consuming, but easy. Elmer’s Painters made this a snap!
