Do you love UglyDolls? (I was always a fan of Ox since he looked like a cute little one-eyed bunny.) Now UglyDolls have inspired a musical comedy hitting theaters on May 3, 2019. With a batch of UglyDolls Stick Puppets, you’ll be able to create your own movie-inspired stories at home!
In the adorably different town of Uglyville, weird is celebrated, strange is special and beauty is embraced as more than simply meets the eye. Here, the free-spirited Moxy (Clarkson) and her UglyDoll friends live every day in a whirlwind of bliss, letting their freak flags fly in a celebration of life and its endless possibilities. In this all-new story, the UglyDolls will go on a journey beyond the comfortable borders of Uglyville. There, they will confront what it means to be different, struggle with their desire to be loved, and ultimately discover that you don’t have to be perfect to be amazing because who you truly are is what matters most.
UglyDolls Stick Puppets
To make your own Ugly Dolls puppets you’ll need:
- Felt
- Googly Eyes
- Tacky Glue
- Cotton Braiding Cord
- Craft Sticks
- Ugly Dolls Template
- Scissors
- Red and Black Slick Fabric Paint
Use the template to cut out your UglyDolls shapes from the corresponding color of felt. You can use a straight pin to attach the template to the felt to make things a little easier. Use sharp fabric scissors for the best results. Cut out black felt mouths for Ugly Dog and Babo, and a blue felt apron for Wage.
Use tacky glue to attach the mouths, eyelashes, collar, apron, nose and googly eyes to the felt cutouts. Black braiding cord works well for thin mouths, eyelashes and Ox’s missing eye since it’s not prone to fraying. Add tongues and teeth using slick fabric paint. To control the application, squeeze out a little bit of the paint on a scrap of felt and then paint it on your puppets with a toothpick.
Use more tacky glue to attach craft sticks to the back of each felt character to create stick puppets. Once everything is dry you’ll be ready for lots of UglyDolls Movie-inspired play!
