A Visit With American Housewife Star Katy Mixon

We attended a special American Housewife event as part of the Disney and Marvel Studios hosted Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Event.

I started watching American Housewife last year after a group of friends visited the set and raved about the show. I was so excited to get a sneak peek about upcoming episode “The Club” and chat with Katy Mixon when I was in town for the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 Event last month.

When Anna-Kat develops a fear of water and stops bathing, her therapist suggests the Ottos get her to go swimming. But can Katie get over own her fear of wearing a bathing suit in public at the Westport Country Club so she can help her kid out? Meanwhile Oliver gives his dad a style makeover after students at the college give Greg a low “jalapeño” score, on “American Housewife,” airing TUESDAY, MAY 2 (8:30-9:00 p.m. EDT), on The ABC Television Network.

“American Housewife” stars Katy Mixon as Katie Otto, Diedrich Bader as Greg Otto, Meg Donnelly as Taylor, Daniel DiMaggio as Oliver, Julia Butters as Anna-Kat, Carly Hughes as Angela and Ali Wong as Doris. Guest starring are Miya Cech as Marigold and Alexa Sutherland as the teenage lifeguard.
“The Club” was written by Brian Donovan & Ed Herro and directed by David Bertman.

Katy is such a sweetheart, and she’s the first to tell you that she has very little in common with her character. “I’m not Katie Otto. I don’t get mad at a green juice. If you’re going to do yoga, I think that’s awesome! You’re bettering yourself. Do you!”

That doesn’t mean she doesn’t love what she’s doing. “I’m having the time of my life,” says Katy. “To be given the opportunity to do what you love to do is quite incredible.”

Even though she’s not similar in personality to her character, Katy knows that American Housewife shares a universal theme. “I knew in the beginning when I signed onto it, I felt like it didn’t matter what gender you are and what background you come from. Everybody relates to insecurity. No matter whether you’re from Kansas, from Oregon, from Miami, from Westport. Everybody’s got their Westport.”

Now the television mom is three is preparing to become a mom herself. “This is the first summer that I’m not gonna be doing a movie. I’m gonna be a mommy – I’m so excited!” Her little boy is on the way this spring. “I just want to introduce him to the world!”

You can catch “The Club” tonight on ABC at 8:30/7:30c. Katy also gave us a big hint that the season finale would be one we wouldn’t want to miss. “The finale, I can’t wait for y’all to see the finale. It airs on May 16. So tune in!”
