Remember when I was talking about keeping a wish list and shared some of the things I wanted? Well, my wish list just got a little bit smaller.
I wanted a small projector for a while now. (Basically since I learned they existed.) I work at a non-profit and I train at least once a month. There’s a PowerPoint for each training, so that means projecting. We do have an LCD projector at the office, but there’s just the one. It’s under lock and key. That means checking it out, hoping someone didn’t take it without checking it out, that the cables are in the case. You get the picture. I’ve had more than one situation where a group of 20 or more teachers were on their way and I wasn’t sure how I was going to do my training. Things are not great financially for non-profits, so buying more projectors wasn’t in the cards. Enter my wish for a projector of my own.
3M had recently introduced their own mobile projector with a great social media campaign. It certainly worked for me-I wanted one badly. I tried to win one every chance I could. I even contacted their PR company to ask about a review. I was put on their waiting list, but I had the worst timing possible. I asked just after the Consumer Electronics Show. The wait list was LONG. So I was back to wishing.
One day I was on Facebook and saw a message about a contest they were holding on Twitter. I entered. I asked my friends to enter. I was wishing…but I’m sure everyone else who entered was, too.
Congrats to @lilac_the_bunny who won a 3M MP225a Mobile Projector in our Spring retweet contest! Happy Spring to all our followers!

And then that happened. I’m starting to believe in my inner Oprah and The Secret and talking things into existence. Well…not completely. But I have a projector on the way!
Fast forward to this week. It’s my first training since my projector arrived. I was so excited about my new gadget. (So was everyone in the office…they all want one, too, now!)
I had ordered the VGA cable as soon as I got the message that I won. That was all I needed to hook up my laptop and project. It was so easy!
I did learn a few things during my first training. I needed to have the projector close to the screen. It projects BIG! My Joby Gorillapod Tripod wasn’t ideal for the use. It had a little too much wiggle and flex in it and I had a hard time getting it set up. (I’m planning to purchase a mini spider tripod to use instead.) Don’t get me wrong-I love my Gorillapod…just not for this. I also had to darken the room quite a bit to get a good image on the screen. Luckily the room had multiple light controls. I closed the blinds and turned off the lights on the end of the conference room where I was located and got a good image. (If I had turned off all of the lights I would have gotten a great image-and I would have also had half of my attendees asleep…so…it was a good compromise to go halfway with the lights.)
I’m absolutely thrilled with my new 3M Mobile Projector. I can’t thank 3M enough for sending me one to use! And now that I know that I have the power to speak my wishes into reality…dear Samsung…I really want a new television for my guest/workout room. Thanking you in advance…
