Thank you to Disney Studios for hosting me during the A Wrinkle In Time Event.
I always think my job is pretty cool. Sometimes I think my job is really awesome. Occasionally I think to myself, “What the heck did I do to deserve this?” The world premiere of A Wrinkle In Time? That was a total “what the heck did I do to deserve this” moment. Hashtag blessed.
The day before the premiere we had participated in hours of interviews with the stars and filmmakers. As in we talked to Mindy, Reese and Oprah, Y’all!
But for me, the standout from interview day was Ava DuVernay. I got to ask her a question. She made us all cry. I walked away from that day an even bigger fan than before, knowing that her interview would forever be one of my favorite moments.
But back to the A Wrinkle In Time World Premiere…
We walked the blue carpet. A very long blue carpet. They were busy setting up for this weekend’s Academy Awards, so the carpet was around the corner. Inside of the theater we were seated in the balcony. We’re usually right up front, so this was a totally new perspective. A few rows up? The entire cast of Blackish. Who’s that over in the corner? Laura Dern. Seriously, this was the most celebrity-packed event I’ve ever attended. Beyonce was in the freaking theater. We watched a movie with Beyonce, Y’all.
After the movie? The after party! After parties are the best! And after parties after you’ve already done interviews? They’re even better. They give you a chance to thank the actors and filmmakers for sitting down with you on junket day. So thank you Storm Reid!
And thank you Levi Miller!
And thank you Ava DuVernay! Getting the chance to meet you was the absolute highlight of a totally amazing #WrinkleInTimeEvent!
I’ll have so much more on the way in the coming weeks. Make sure you follow along with all of the A Wrinkle In Time coverage!
From visionary director Ava DuVernay comes Disney’s “A Wrinkle in Time,” an epic adventure based on Madeleine L’Engle’s timeless classic which takes audiences across dimensions of time and space, examining the nature of darkness versus light and, ultimately, the triumph of love. Through one girl’s transformative journey led by three celestial guides, we discover that strength comes from embracing one’s individuality and that the best way to triumph over fear is to travel by one’s own light.
Meg Murry is a typical middle school student struggling with issues of self-worth who just wants to fit in. The daughter of two world-renowned physicists, she is intelligent and uniquely gifted, as is Meg’s younger brother, Charles Wallace, but she has yet to realize it for herself. Complicating matters is the mysterious disappearance of Mr. Murry, which has left Meg devastated and her mother broken-hearted. Charles Wallace introduces Meg and her fellow classmate Calvin to three celestial beings (Mrs. Which, Mrs. Whatsit and Mrs. Who) who have journeyed to Earth to help search for their father, and together they embark on their formidable quest. Travelling via a wrinkling of time and space known as tessering, they are transported to worlds beyond their imagination where they must confront a powerful evil force. To make it back home to Earth, Meg must face the darkness within herself in order to harness the strength necessary to defeat the darkness rapidly enveloping the Universe.
