Thank you to Disneyland for providing me with complimentary media passes during my visit. Information about MaxPass included in this post was valid as of September 14, 2019.
I’m not sure what Disney Magic the Imagineers worked up for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disneyland, but it’s definitely got something going on behind the scenes. I recently visited Galaxy’s Edge with my friends Amanda and Leanette, and one thing was instantly clear: there’s no way Mother Nature made all of the lighting, in every spot, that perfect. Batuu, the planet where Galaxy’s Edge is located, was a land made for Instagram. There’s also one spot inside of Galaxy’s Edge that is going to convince you that MaxPass is a mandatory purchase.
“But Amy,” you say, “It clearly says that MaxPass isn’t available for Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge when I look it up on the website.” I shake my head, wondering why you choose to question me, and explain that while Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run isn’t available for a FASTPASS, the PhotoPass opportunities are part of the MaxPass. Then I realize I should just back up and explain the whole thing…
What is Disneyland’s MaxPass?
MaxPass is a digital service that utilizes the Disneyland app. It offers you access to two things: FASTPASS selections via the mobile app and Disneyland PhotoPass downloads. When you purchase MaxPass, you’ll get access to any of the photos the Disneyland PhotoPass photographers take throughout the day. That includes those classic Disneyland Train Station photos.
Does MaxPass include Disneyland ride photos?
Your MaxPass purchase will include access to your ride photos, too. All you need is the photo number from the screen as you exit the ride and you’ll be able to enter it directly into the app to download.
How Much Does Disneyland’s MaxPass cost?
MaxPass costs $15 a day, per person. If you have a park hopper ticket the same MaxPass purchase covers both parks.
Does Everyone In Your Party Need MaxPass?
If you want to utilize MaxPass for FASTPASS selections, everyone in your party will need to purchase MaxPass. If you only want to utilize the PhotoPass option, one MaxPass purchase will work for everyone. Just keep in mind, the person who purchases the MaxPass will become the “keeper of the photos” and will be responsible for making sure they get scanned every time photos are taken and entering any ride photo numbers into the app.
How Do You Purchase MaxPass?
You can purchase MaxPass as an upgrade when you purchase your Disneyland tickets online. You can also purchase MaxPass the same day, directly from the Disneyland app. The price is the same, regardless of when or where you purchase MaxPass.
Our visit to Batuu started in the afternoon. We decided not to get a MaxPass for each of us, instead letting Leanette be our “keeper of the photos” for the day. That meant we only had to chip in $5 a piece to get all of the photos. This ended up being a great option because a) hello, look at those Millennium Falcon photos and b) a lot of the hot ticket FASTPASS options were long gone by the time we arrived. If you arrive earlier in the day, having everyone in your party purchase MaxPass is a great choice and can really help you make the most of your FASTPASS options.
Whatever you do, make sure you take the time to get the photos in front of Smuggler’s Run. The lines moved quickly and the photos were totally worth it. Oh, and if you are bummed that Smuggler’s Run doesn’t offer a FASTPASS option yet, don’t worry-the Single Rider line let’s you ride with almost no wait! And there you have my two most important Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge tips: get the MaxPass for the Millennium Falcon photos and skip the wait by using the Single Rider Line.
